Six Signs that your Pet May be Sick or Injured

Pets cannot tell us when they are feeling unwell, so it is important to pay close attention to any changes in their behavior. If you notice any of the following signs, it could be an indication that your pet needs medical attention:
- 1
Behavior changes: A sudden change in your pet’s behavior can be a red flag. If your furry friend is unusually lethargic, has a loss of appetite or is acting strangely (more aggressive or withdrawn), it could be a sign of illness or injury.
- 2
Difficulty standing or moving: If your pet is having trouble standing, walking or climbing stairs, or if they seem stiff or in pain when moving, it could be an indication of an injury or underlying health issues. Watch for signs of limping or an unwillingness to move as well.
- 3
Excessively licking, chewing or biting: If your pet is obsessively licking, chewing or biting at a certain area, it could indicate pain, irritation or injury. They may also be trying to soothe themselves from discomfort.
- 4
Hiding or isolation: Pets, especially cats, tend to hide when they are not feeling well. If your normally social pet is isolating themselves in a quiet space, avoiding interaction or staying in a position that is out of the ordinary, something may be wrong.
- 5
Panting or whining: Excessive panting or whining can signal pain, anxiety, or discomfort. While panting is normal after exercise or during hot weather, persistent or heavy panting in cooler conditions could indicate something more serious.
- 6
Reluctance to touch: If your pet pulls away from you when you try to pet them or is sensitive when you touch them in certain areas, it may be a sign of injury or pain. Check for swelling, bruising or tenderness.
